Tim’s Take: A former MBA classmate of mine left a prestigious strategy consulting firm to become a franchisee of Metal Supermarkets. He’s already opening his second location, which is a very positive sign. Many franchisors sell multiple units and then never end up opening them. Opening multiple ones generally indicates the franchisee still believes in the concept after opening their first.

I love that this is a very niche B2B business and demand for metal is unlikely to significantly decline. It is needed for so many things!

Although I would like to see them post net income numbers in their item 19 earnings claim, with over $1m in average gross profit, it’s hard to imagine that after large expense items such as rent, employee salaries, and royalties there isn’t still a healthy net margin remaining, but as always, you will need to validate this through conversations with several existing franchisees.
