Tim’s Take: Temporary Wall Systems was started by a carpenter in the Boston area who heard a general contractor say “Why can’t I just rent these things?” (in reference to the temporary walls). He took out a $50,000 line of credit on his house and started the business. Over the next 5 years he scaled it to the numbers shown above with limited employees.

This is a very straight forward, high margin rental business. The walls themselves are very easy to put up and take down. In most situations they can be installed by 2 people in an hour or two.

This is a bit more capital intensive than some other businesses as you have to continue to buy more inventory as you scale, but the walls typically pay for themselves in 6-12 months.

This is a B2B business, so the sales cycle is a bit longer, but once you establish relationships with general contractors it will lead to steady, repeat business. However, you shouldn’t expect a quick initial ramp period as you can’t turn on Google or Facebook ads and expect the phone to start ringing like a B2C business.
